Travelling art: exhibitions for public bodies

With “Travelling art”, Mart has set up a consultancy and collaborative service for public organisations, with the aim of organising temporary exhibitions within the field of mod-ern and contemporary art.

The service has three levels of operation: one specifically a consulting one, guiding the organisation through the complex world of the organisation of exhibitions, offering methods, experience and orientation in order to improve the organisational level of the institutional events in Trentino and further afield in the field of art exhibitions; the second is more specifically scientific, concerning the evaluation of exhibition projects and work-ing alongside the body for the feasibility and research projects; the third, finally, involves a full-scale partnership with the aim of co-producing cultural events and temporary loans for art exhibitions.
The service reports to the Scientific Directors of Mart and sees the involvement of the competence within the museum as is already used for scientific activities and/or techni-cal and organisational ones within the field of temporary exhibitions and permanent col-lections.
Some projects of the travelling exhibitions are available on this page.

Information is available by e-mail from arteinviaggio@mart.trento.it

Martpartnership

The partnership service foresees the temporary loan of works of art forming part of Mart’s permanent collections and/or the co-production of new exhibition projects, as long as these are of common interest to the parties involved.

The partnership is effected as a high-quality, low-cost scientific collaboration.

The service requires some prerequisites:

- The juridical status as Public Body, Tourism promotion company, or non-profit founda-tion or body.

- The availability of suitable locations for the conservation and security of the works of art (climate control, security systems, guards)

- Acceptance of the clauses in the collaboration contracts

- The sharing of a calendar compatible with the organisational requirements of Mart

- Inscription for the year corresponding to the collaboration as Member of Mart (associa-tions category)

- The partnership formula foresees a sine qua non loan condition of and three different forms of collaboration:

Sine qua non loan condition:

The applicant Body must set up an insurance policy for the works of art as required by Mart.

Forms of collaboration:

Simple collaboration: the applicant Body directly undertakes the organisation of the event (shipping, layout, advertising and PR, invitations) and all costs deriving from these, which it will fulfil using its own suppliers (with the exception of the insurance for the works of art, which must always depend from the policy set up by Mart).

It will itself arrange for illustrative material for the exhibition (catalogue, guide, etc.). Mart will only oversee the scientific part of the project.

“Turnkey” collaboration: the applicant Body signs a loan contract in which is foreseen that the entire organisation of the exhibition, including layout, is undertaken by the Museum. In this case, the Body will reimburse Mart for the fixed costs deriving form the “live” costs of the exhibition organisation (insurance, shipping, materials for the layout, earnings from sales of catalogues and/or merchandising handled on sale or return basis, etc.), plus a fee to be agreed as reimbursement for the organisational and scientific work. The Body will remain responsible for the advertising and PR for the event (adver-tising, posters, invitations, etc.).

Co-production: this is implemented in the case of new research projects of common in-terest to do with the Mart collections or themes or subjects of historical and artistic in-terest associated with the Trentino area as their focus. In this case, Mart and the appli-cant Body will share the organisational costs on a 50-50 basis.

These events must fall within Mart’s pluriennial programme, even if presented in spaces other than those of the Museum. The realisation of new projects will require planning of at least 18 months.
