The didactic activities offered by Mart since 1984 for children (from infant school to second-level secondary schools) place modern and contemporary art at the centre of their operations. The workshops become excit-ing opportunities for stimulus, knowledge and reflection on the languages and forms of art, introducing vari-ous ways of reading the works and suggesting strategies and models to be adopted by the teachers. They help the development of the personality, and provide possibilities for the start of cognitive, formative, educa-tional and multidisciplinary processes. The Schools Area of Mart’s Education Department offers itself as an instrument at the service of teachers and children for activities and experiences able to develop artistic, so-cial and cross-discipline skills to arrive at an understanding of significant forms in our culture.

The eEducation Department
Mart’s education department was set up in 1984, the result of the experi-ence of research based on a clear methodological structure using tech-niques of decomposition and recomposition of the works of art to encour-age children and adults to explore the creative process used in making art and become more responsive to the forms it takes.
And to learn how to de-code and produce images, a hands-on approach is adopted in tandem to the critical, appreciative one.
Starting with educational proposals for schools, the education department has expanded over time, increasing its activities and involving a different public through its specific programmes: from teachers to adults, university students to families, associations to the disabled, universities for senior citizens and spare time to cultural tourism. The research goes on. Cur-rently, Mart’s education department offers more than 95 projects.
VENUES FOR THE ACTIVITIES
Programmes for children, adults, teachers, families and associations are of-fered in every Mart site.
STRUCTURE
The education department is divided into three specific sectors which are autonomous but linked: Schools Sector, Public Sector and Training and Consultancy Sector.
USERS
The programmes of Mart’s education department have over time attracted an increasing and highly positive response from the public, drawing in more than 70,000 users each year
